In 1986, a group of community members recognized a need for adult literacy services and formed the Montcalm Area Reading Council. For 35 years, MARC has helped change lives through improved literacy.

MARC History
1986- MARC is organized to address adult illiteracy in Montcalm County
1990– ESL (English as a Second Language) services are added
1994- MARC establishes endowment with the Greenville Area Community Foundation
1997– Lacking funding and a director, MARC tutors step up and keep things running
1998– MARC moves to the newly constructed Flat River Community Library
2006– Greenville’s Electrolux plant closes & MARC helps workers prepare for new jobs
2011- MARC celebrates 25 years
2019- MARC presents at the National Center for Families Learning Conference (NCFL)
2021- MARC celebrates 35 years
